This atlas is one of GeorgiaView’s outreach
activities. The theme of this atlas is the
croplands in Georgia. Croplands are very
important part of our living environment.
Even if online platforms like CropScape
(https://nassgeodata.gmu.edu/CropScape/)
provide cropland information, they are not
reached to the public easily because of,
mostly, technical limits. As a way of helping
people's environmental awareness and
decision making, intuitively and
informatively, GeorgiaView has developed
image atlas series using community
boundaries in Georgia such as 159 counties,
14 congressional districts, and 12 regional
commissions. Landsat imagery, Cropland
Data Layer, administrative boundaries, and
the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) are
used in this atlas. Road network datasets are
also used as a reference for relative locations
of geographical units such as counties.
This atlas may appeal to various decision
makers who use geographical boundaries at
local and state governments. It may also be
used for civilizing K-12 students about their
communities, primary production fields, and
environmental awareness.
